Rare earth elements are divided into "light rare earth elements" and "heavy rare earth elements":
"Light rare earth elements" refers to the atomic number smaller La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, Sm, Eu, Gd
"Heavy rare earth element" atomic number larger Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, Sc, Y
