LIBS – Rapid Elemental Analysis (MiniFly)

Product details

What Is LIBS (Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy)?

Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) is an analytical technique that uses high-energy laser pulses to interact with a sample, instantly vaporizing the material and generating a high-temperature plasma. By analyzing the light emitted as the plasma cools, the chemical elemental composition of the sample can be identified.

When the laser is focused on the sample surface, the intense energy rapidly heats and melts the material, forming a plasma. As the plasma cools, it emits light at characteristic wavelengths. By matching these spectral lines, different chemical elements present in the sample can be accurately identified.

Advantages of LIBS Technology

  • Rapid analysis: Elemental identification can be completed within one second.
  • Multi-element detection: Simultaneous detection of metals, non-metals, and light elements.
  • Simple sample preparation: Solid, liquid, and gas samples can be analyzed directly.
  • In-situ, real-time analysis: Ideal for field and on-site applications, significantly reducing sample transport and pre-treatment time.

As a result, LIBS offers high application value and strong growth potential in environmental monitoring, industrial process control, material analysis, archaeological research, and defense and security inspection.
